Faith has little to do with foreign policy
Nation had a rather interesting article about Bush and religion a few days ago. It is unfortunate that many would apply such terms> "arrogance", "Ignorance" and "religious Certitude" yet not apply the same to the jihadists.
It's quite true that religious certitude should not be policy and that arrogance and ignorance, can be contributing factors to conflict. It is also vogue to accuse President Bush of exhibiting all the three “qualities”. However, it would seem more appropriate to apply these descriptions to the Islamo - Fascists we are fighting against.
So certain are they about the righteousness of their religion that they advocate the elimination of all non – believers/ infidels (read: Shiites, Jews and Christians). So sure are they in their abilities and their cause, that they would wantonly take the lives of innocent Kenyans. So ignorant are they of the world, and the ability of religions to co-exist (like in Kenya ), that they advocate the establishment of an exclusionary society (Caliphate).
The poster child for: “religious certitude”, “arrogance”, and “ignorance”, is not President Bush: it is Osama Bin Laden.

If this is not "religious certitude, arrogance and ignorance", then I don't know what is. The extremists in the Bush administration are not that different from the extremists in Al Qaida.

It is obvious that this group is taking its cause way too far. But I don't think one can equate Bush's policy's with those of spreading Chrisitanity by the sword. I don't think even the most ardent of Bush advisers would advocate such a provocative policy.
The Bush administration freezes family panning funding for groups that advocate condom use and abortion thus condemning millions to unnecessary early deaths; it uses the machhinery of state to enforce its religious belief that marriage is between a man and a woman; its blind support for Israel is driven largely by religious fervour. How is this different from "spreading Christianity by the sword"?
The Bush admin has frozen money for organizations that advocate abortion (a legitimate concern for christians and non christians)Every administration funds issues that it deems to be ideologically compatable. Dems want to push abortion, they fund it, repubs are against abortion, they defund it.
The admin has emphasized abstinence and faithfullness over condom use. However, these are legitimate policy alternatives. It is tru that they are based on religiou/moral beliefs (same way that aid to third world is framed)
It is a stretch to equate the violent imposition of ones religious views (ala Osama) to Bush's policies.
Moreover, all presidents (dems and Repubs) have been accused of blind support for Israel. And I doubt Bush has used any state machinery to "enforce its religious belief that marriage is between a man and a woman"
